Duties & Responsibilites of Local Officers

President

The Local Union President shall:
  • preside at all meetings, preserve order, and enforce the Constitution and Laws of the United Brotherhood
  • determine questions of eligibility of office
  • have the deciding vote in case of a tie
  • appoint all committees or other officers as necessary
  • call special meetings when requested
  • see that bonds are procured for officers and perform other such duties as required

Vice-President

The Local Union Vice-President shall:
  • assist the President in the official duties
  • attend all Local Union sessions
  • perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President
  • fill the office of President in the event of death, removal, or resignation of the President, until a new President is elected

Recording Secretary

The Local Union Recording Secretary shall:
  • keep minutes of each meeting
  • read and preserve all documents and correspondence
  • issue all summons for special meetings
  • have charge of the seal and affix all official documents
  • conduct all official correspondence
  • report to the Local Union the expenditures at the close of each meeting
  • perform such other duties as directed by the Local Union, or as prescribed in the Constitution and Laws of the United Brotherhood
  • when instructed, notify all members to present their Dues Books, working card, or other verification, to the trustees each quarter to compare them with the books of the Financial Secretary

Financial Secretary

The Local Union Financial Secretary shall:
  • receives all dues, fees, and funds in the Local Union and issues receipts
  • keep an inventory of all records and property of the Local Union
  • records all memberships and officers into the UBC membership processing system
  • record all membership payments and receipts into the UBC membership processing system and reports them to the Local Union
  • report the financial standing of the Local Union and per capita tax monthly at membership meetings
  • make disbursements on behalf of the Local Union as required (all checks must be signed by two or more officers of the Local Union)

Conductor

The Local Union Conductor shall:
  • obtain the names of all candidates awaiting initiation and report to the President
  • conduct the candidate through the initiation ceremony
  • perform all duties pertaining to the office

Warden

The Local Union Warden shall:
  • take charge of the doors at the meeting and see that no one but members enter

Trustees

The Local Union Trustees shall:
  • supervise all funds and properties of the Local Union
  • oversee the Local Union Recording Secretary and Financial Officers
  • perform audits of all receipts and examine the bank book(s) monthly
  • report to the Local Union monthly on Bond Report Forms
  • perform other such duties as provided by the Constitution and Laws of the United Brotherhood or as the Local Union directs

Committees

The Local Union Committees shall:
  • perform the duties assigned to them within the time specified and report in writing
